Day 01: Arrival in Bogota
Today you will arrive in Bogota where you will be welcomed by the bilingual travel guide and transfer to a pleasant and well located hotel where you will spend the next three nights. -/-/-
Day 02: Bogota City Tour
Half day tour through Colombia’s capital city. You begin with a walk round Bogota’s main square, the Plaza de Bolívar, and the government buildings around it, including the presidential palace, before entering the nearby “Candelaria” old town, the colonial centre of the city. Then you will visit the impressive San Francisco and La Tercera churches and to the world-famous Museo del Oro, which contains more than 30.000 pre-Columbian gold artefacts. You end with a trip by cable car to the summit of Monserrate hill, Bogota’s best-known landmark, from which there is a wonderful view of the whole city and the savannah beyond. B
Day 03: Villa de Leyva
Early morning departure from Bogota northwards along the autopista. After roughly 2 hours, you arrive at one of the most significant national monuments in Colombia: the “Boyacá Bridge”. It was over this bridge that Simón Bolívar fought and won his most decisive battle against Spanish settlers. Then you continue your trip to Tunja with a short visit to Villa de Leyva, which is one of the most beautiful colonial small towns in South America. After a quick stroll through the town, lunch will be served within the colonial surroundings of one of Villa de Leyva’s hotels. After lunch, you continue the trip with a visit to La Ráquira, a village of quaint and colourful small houses, famous for its pottery and ceramics; and then through the pilgrimage location of Chiquinquirá, before returning to Bogota. Day 04: Bogota – Coffee Region
Today you will fly from Bogota to Armenia. Upon arrival you will be welcomed by the local travel guide and escorted to a romantic coffee-growing farm located near Armenia. In the afternoon visit of a special coffee growing farm which includes a technical and practical introduction about the whole coffee cultivation and production process and a visit of the botanical garden with its impressive butterfly raising. Day 05: Coffee Region
After breakfast you will visit the picturesque villages of Salento where you can see the impressive “Palma de Cera”, the Colombian national tree and one of the tallest varieties of palm in the world. Continuation to the Cocora Valley with breathtaking landscapes which will be explored by a horse riding or walking trip. B/L/D
Day 06: Coffee Region – San Agustin
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight to Neiva with a stopover in Bogota. After reaching Neiva the capital of the Huila, you will do an overland trip of 4–5 hours through the mountainous landscape of the river Magdalena to San Agustín. In the countryside surrounding this pleasant rural village can be found some of the most important archeological remains in the whole continent. On arrival in San Agustín, around noon, transfer to a medium-class central hotel where you will spend the next two nights. B
Day 07: San Agustin
In the morning you will visit the “San Agustín Archaeological Park” touring Mesitas A-B-C and D, the “Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas” and the Archaeological Museum. Around noon, trip to the nearby village of San José de Isnos which also includes the spectacular landscapes surrounding the “Salto del Mortiño” and “Salto de Bordones” waterfalls. Towards the end of the afternoon, return trip to San Agustín. Time to rest and explore the village. B
Day 08: San Agustin - Bogota
Morning horseback ride to “El Tablón” and “La Chaquira” archaeological sites, or, alternatively, a trip to the nearby straits of the Magadalena, the narrowest point the river passes through. Then you will be taken to Neiva where you will catch your return flight to Bogota. On arrival, transfer to hotel or (as requested), onward flight to another city.
