Argentina is after Brazil the second largest country in South America. It has a surface of 2.8 million qkm and is therefore only a little smaller than India. Argentina is characterised particularly by its large cultural variety and its six geographical regions. Bolivia with its 1,098,000 qkm is about as large as France and Spain together. It is not a highly populated country as it only has about 7.9 million inhabitants. Brazil is the 5th largest country on earth. With its 8.5 million square kilometres it takes nearly half of South America. If you are going to travel to Chile, you will se: In the North is the most arid desert in the world; in the Centre there are Mediterranean landscapes; in the South, forests and lakes; in the Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, fiords, glacier fields and stormy pampas; and in the Antarctic, eternal whiteness. Chile is the ideal country for adventure travel. Peru is the symbol for everything that has to do with the mystical empires, which ever saw the light of the world and had their centre here in the Andes. Venezuela is the clear waters of the Caribbean; the purity of the Amazonas, the peaceful beauty of the Andes; the animal life of the central Plains; the magnificence of the Guayana highlands.

The Giants of South America - 23 Day Expedition
Degre of Diffilculty: E

A fantastic journey that includes the wonderful and magnificent mountains of South America. The Chimborazo, which is situated in Ecuador, is the highest mountain in the one of the smallest South American countries. With 6310m its peak is the furthest point away from the center of the earth. In the days of the German explorer "Humboldt" it was believed to be the highest peak on the planet.

Simon Bolivar, the liberator of 5 South American countries, was fascinated by the impressive view from this snow giant and wrote his famous poem "Mi delirio sobre el Chimborazo" / "My passion for the Chimborazo"

Once acclimatized at this height, we can move onto Aconcagua in Argentina, which at 6959m above sea level is the highest peak on the American content. The Aconcagua is situated on the border of Argentina and Chile.

Along with these giants we will take in the slightly smaller peak of Carihuayrazo at 5100m in Ecuador, which is next to the Chimborazo. Furthermore we will see the beautiful and historic cities of Quito, Santiago de Chile and the town of Mendoza at the foot of Aconcagua.

You will already be stunned by the sight of the Chimborazo…but after having climbed the summit of the Aconcagua, you will experience the certainty, to have reached a milestone to the ascent of a 8000 meters high mountain.

We will climb the summit on the normal route which will not cause any difficulties if the weather conditions are fine, but still an excellent physical condition is essential

Altogether this is a journey of complete beauty and adventure and something that will give the explorer a lifetime of memories.

Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Quito - City tour
Arrival in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, which lies at 2.800m above sea level. You will get to experience the new section of the city in the North with its many parks and tall modern buildings, the Avenida Rio Amazonas, the Plazas Santo Domingo, Independencia and San Francisco which are in the colonial section in the South of the city. Due to its many historical architectural monuments the UNESCO declared the old part of town a world heritage site in 1978. From the Panecillo hill in the South of the old part of town, where the high monument of the Virgen of Quito stands at with 43m, you have an impressing prospect. From here you have wonderful views over the red clay tile roves of the old part of town, the skyline of Quito in the North, as well as the surrounding Andean cordilleras range with its outstanding snow-covered mountain giants.
