Hacienda Yanahurco - Cotopaxi

Yanahurco is located 100 km from Quito, behind the Cotopaxi National Park to the southeastern side of the Cotopaxi Volcano. It is approximately 3 and half hours away from Quito in a 4x4 car drive.
Hacienda Yanahurco is the largest Andean mountain ranch and private wildlife refuge in Ecuador with 26,000 hectares approximately 65,000 acres. It is a private ecological mountain reserve with comfortable accommodations and full board meals. Yanahurco is the perfect blend of peace and harmony, offering the most exciting adventures, awe inspiring landscapes, the best highland horses, and an abundance of wildlife and birds of the Andes.

The Hacienda Yanahurco offers 12 rooms in a ranch style building with single, double or triple accommodations, according to your need. The rooms have private bathroom and some have a fireplace.

The ranch has a small interpretation center where you can admire samples of some of the most important wild animals and plants on the hacienda.
Trekking and Biking
Yanahurco is the perfect place to trek. Levels go from soft to medium and hard adventure. Pack animals and all collective equipment can be provided. Overnights are in huts or tented campsites. A variety of: 2, 3, 4, and 5-day programs have been carefully planned so you can visit the most interesting and wonderful sites of the hacienda within the comfort and safety of a protected area. Bikers may also choose the tours according to their physical and technical conditions through the most exciting routes.
Camping
The hacienda has assigned special sites for those who wish to go camping. These campsites will provide the group (minimum 5 people) with all the comfort and security they need for a pleasant, quiet, comfortable and unforgettable stay.
The Family House
The Hacienda House has two living rooms with large fireplaces, a dining room, a barbecue dining room and game area apart from the three bedrooms. These rooms have their private bath and can be sold as individual rooms or for groups of 10 to 12 people.
Yanahurco Festival
This is a special offer for groups of tourists. It involves a typical festival from the Andes with bullfights (no killing of the bull), local village music band "Banda de Pueblo", typical Ecuadorian cuisine, soft drinks and local drinks such as the “Spirit of Ecuador”. It is a custom made program which has to be planned at least 60 days in advance.

Day 1: Arrival - Ranch Tour

Day 2: Activities - Quito
Attend a typical cow milking activity (optional). Breakfast. Hiking or horse back riding activities are offered. Option riding routes: Dead Man’s Rock, Arms Square, Contadero lookout point, Torriuco Towers at a distance of 3 Km to 8 km from the hacienda; Vicious Valley River about 6 km away and the Sebretana cliffs at about 8 km. Fishing in the rivers of the surrounding areas and horseback riding. Box lunch or lunch at the hacienda house depending on the program chosen. Return to Quito. B/L/-
Sebretana Waterfall Tour:
3 days/2 nights
Day 1: Arrival – Ranch Tour
Welcome cocktail. Guests accommodations. Ranch tour. Lunch. Afternoon free for acclimatization, fishing and light hike to see deer. Dinner. Games: billiards, ping-pong, cards, videos, and juke box. -/L/D
Day 2: Hike to the Waterfall
06:00 Optional cow milking tour. Breakfast at 08:00. Depart to the waterfall via Dead Man’s Rock at 09:30. Approximately 2 hours on horseback. Tour the waterfall and surroundings, and fish. Campsite lunch. Return to the ranch house via the magnificent cliffs of the Vicious Valley River where condors nest. Arrive at the ranch approximately at 17:30 to 18:00. B/L/D
Day 3: Return to Quito
08:30 Breakfast. Ride a 4x4 vehicle to special sightseeing places. Optional fishing and other activities. Lunch. Return to Quito at 14:30. B/L/-
Jatuncocha Lake Tour:
4 Days/3 Nights
Day 1: Arrival – Ranch Tour

Day 2: Jatuncocha Lake
8:oo Breakfast. 9:30 Departure to the Jatuncocha Lake via Dead Man’s Rock and through the last counter forts of the Eastern Andes Cordillera (cimarrones). Box lunch. Arrival time approximately at 13:00. Afternoon for fishing, hiking through Cimarron’s rain forest. At 19:00 dinner will be served. Comments on the trip. Rest and overnight in a comfortable rustic hut by the lake. B/L/D
Day 3: Hike to the Waterfall
07:30 Breakfast. Trip to the waterfall. Campsite lunch at the waterfall. Return to the ranch house through the rain forest via Sebretana´s cliffs to see the magnificent condors. Arrive at the ranch house. Time to freshen up and rest. Dinner. Games, music, and dancing and overnight stay. B/L/D
Day 4: Return to Quito
Breakfast at 8:30. Ride on a 4x4 vehicle to special sightseeing places. Optional fishing and other activities. Lunch at 13:00. Return to Quito. B/L/-

The following is a personal equipment list suggested for traveling to Yanahurco. Day temperatures can oscillate considerably in the mountains from 65ºF at daytime to 30ºF at night. Usually the temperature will average the 50's.
Clothing:
Shirt: Cotton or wool long sleeved or turtleneck
Sweater: Heavy wool, fleece jacket or vest
Trousers: Full length, wool or blend or pile or other warm pants.
Underwear: Thermal light-weight, top and bottom (polypropylene)
Headwear: Skycap or wool hat or wide brim felt hat; sky band.
Jackets: insulated or Gore-Tex, anorak or mountain parka for rain and wind
Gloves: Wool, leather or polypropylene
