Detailed Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Bogota
Today you will arrive in Bogota where you will be welcomed by the bilingual travel guide and transfer to the five star Tequendama Hotel, which itself is a listed building. Here you spend the next two nights.-/-/-
Day 02: Bogota City Tour
Tour of Colombia’s capital city (half day). You begin with a walk round Bogota’s main square, the Plaza de Bolívar, and the government buildings around it, including the presidential palace before entering the nearby Candelaria old town, the colonial centre of the city. Then you will visit the impressive San Francisco and La Tercera churches and to the world-famous Museo del Oro, which contains more than 30.000 pre-Columbian gold artefacts. The highlight of the day will be a trip by cable car to the summit of Monserrate hill, Bogota’s best-known landmark, from which there is a wonderful view of the whole city and the savannah beyond. B
Day 03: Bogota – Nuqui (Pacific Coast)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight from Bogota with one stop in Medellín, destination Nuquí, a village at the pacific coast. After a short walk around, you board a small motor-boat to make the one hour trip south along the coast to Coqui cove. This is the spectacular seaside setting of the El Cantil cabañas where you will spend the next three nights. Here you can do daily walks to the sea and into the deep tropical forest surrounding El Cantil. B/-/D
Day 04/05: El Cantil cabañas
The combination of coast and jungle that is provided by the El Cantil site represents one of the most interesting and diverse jungle programs in all South America. El Cantil consists of more than 8 rustic chalets, all equipped with shower-baths and hammocks, with mosquito nets and oil lamps in the rooms (electricity is available only in the restaurant). Each chalet also has a sea-view. Meals are excellent. There are opportunities to dive and snorkel. Both the guide (who is also an expert on the natural phenomena of the area), and the diving instructor are excellent. Something new is programmed for each day of your stay, with different outings to explore the jungle, the various beaches, or the sea. B/L/D
Day 06: Nuqui – Coffee Region
After breakfast, return by motor-boat to Nuquí and transfer to the airport from where you will fly to Pereira, capital of Riseralda. You will spend two nights in a very typical coffee farm. In the afternoon visit of a special coffee growing farm which includes a technical and practical introduction about the whole coffee cultivation and production process and a visit of the botanical garden with its impressive butterfly raising. Day 07: Coffee Region
After breakfast you will visit to the picturesque villages of Salento where you can see the impressive Palma de Cera, the Colombian national tree and one of the tallest varieties of palm in the world. Continuation to the Cocora Valley with breathtaking landscapes which will be explored by a horse riding or walking trip. B/L/D
Day 08: Coffee Region – San Agustin
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight to Neiva with a stopover in Bogota. After reaching Neiva, you will do an overland trip of 4–5 hours through the mountainous landscape of the river Magdalena to San Agustín. On reaching the village, transfer to the Yalconia Hotel where you will spend the next three nights. B
Day 09: San Agustin
In the morning you will have an extensive visit to the San Agustín Archaeological Park touring Mesitas A-B-C and D, the Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas and the Archaeological Museum. In the afternoon, horseback ride to “El Tablón” and La Chaquira archaeological parks, or alternatively, a visit to the nearby straits of the Magdalena, a beauty spot that is really worth seeing. B
Day 10: San Agustin
After breakfast you will visit the nearby village of San José de Isnos, to see the treasures of its archaeological park, the Alto de los Ídolos, Alto de las Piedras, and two waterfalls the “Salto del Mortiño” and Salto de Bordones. In the afternoon you will return to San Agustín with free time to look around the village. B
Day 11: San Agustin - Cartagena
In the morning, overland trip back to Neiva. Then you will fly from Neiva to Bogota and then out again to the Caribbean coast and the city of Cartagena. Welcome by the local travel guide. Transfer to the first class Caribe Hotel, located in Cartagena´s Bocagrande district, directly overlooking the beach. The remainder of the day will be at the tourist’s disposal. B/-/D
Day 12: Cartagena
After breakfast you will do a half day trip around Cartagena, one of the most impressive urban centres in Latin America. It is an ancient city constructed in the Spanish colonial style and surrounded by high defensive walls. But don’t be surprised if your own defences fall and you find yourself falling in love with Cartagena’s heady mix of history and Caribbean charm. The tour takes you around all the historic buildings and plazas of the old city, including the “La Popa” convent and “San Felipe” castle. The afternoon will be at the tourist´s disposal to either explore the streets of the old city at your leisure or take a dip in the Caribbean. B/L/D
Day 13: Cartagena
Day-trip to the Islas del Rosario underwater national park, including lunch. You will do a tour of the island of San Martín’s natural aquarium. Here you have the opportunity, among others, to see performing dolphins and sharks. Continuations to the privately owned Pirate´s Island, where there will be time to relax, sunbathe and take a dip in the Caribbean. Return to Cartagena during the afternoon. At night you will have dinner in one of the old city’s picturesque restaurants. B/L/D
Day 14: Cartagena - Departure
In the morning you will be taken to the airport and fly to Bogota. From here you can catch your international flight.
