Itinerary:
Day 01. - Quito - Ibarra - San Francisco
Early in the morning we drive from Quito toward Ibarra in the north. With our bus we get into small and remote villages of rural Ecuador. We observe different kinds of vegetation ranging from semi-desert regions to green meadows. Finally we set off on the trail till we reach the small Indian settlement of San Francisco where we pitch up our campsite (2.900m). -/L/D
Day 02. - Yanacocha Lagoon
After breakfast we head toward the Yanacocha Lake, located at the foothill walk, we pass an interesting cloud forest characterised by a great array of epiphytes. After 5-6 hours walk we set up our campsite by the lake at 3.800 m. Dinner and overnight in to man tent. B/L/D
Day 03. - Yanahurco summit 4.535m
Early walk around the lake and toward the Yanahurco summit. We admire the high moorlands, the Polylepis Andean forests and the rich flora and fauna. This region teems with a still abundant population of birds of prey and scavengers as well as a considerable number of condors. After reaching the summit (4535 m) we return to our campsite to sip some micromeria tea (herb from the highlands very good for altitude sickness). B/L/D
Day 04. - Churoloma - Iruguinchu
Today we head eastwards over a pass through these undisturbed and amazing Andean ecosystems. We get on a trail that leads us toward some Inca ruins which were used in former times as strategic points while waging war against the Caras. Campsite at 3.200 m. B/L/D
Day 05. - Iruguinchu - Quito
After breakfast we continue our descent in aprox. 4 hours toward a small town of Iruguinchu, which lies at 2.300 m. On this journey we will be able to learn about the daily life of the local Indians, their customs and culture. Finally we will be picked up by our vehicle to drive back to Quito. Transfer to your Hotel. B/L/-

USD 740.- per person

In the price included: Private transportation from Quito to Quito (4WD-jeep), Full camping equipment (tents, mess-tent, pads etc.), packs animals. Meals as mentioned above (B: breakfast; L: lunch; D: dinner), English-speaking guide.
Not included in the price:
personal equipment, sleeping bag, travel insurance and tips, International flight airport tax (USD 41.- per person)
What to bring with you:
rainwear, torch, sun cream, sunglasses, hat with brim, warm clothing, small pack, sleeping bag, canteen, camera (film 100 ASA)
Note:
Although this is a moderate Trek, it could be very hard if you are not in good shape. Be ready to walk on trails as well as on cross-country terrain, marsh and forests. Do not expect to find well-marked trails like in the Alps or in the National Parks of USA.
