Hacienda Description:

The beautiful and little known farmhouse of San Agustin de Callo is situated 90 minutes south of Quito along the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Nestled in the foothills of the Cotopaxi Volcano, San Agustin is built on the site of an important Inca Palace. In 1440 the hacienda was built by the Inca Huayna Capac. It is assumed that it was a temple or a palace. When the Spanish came and wanted to build their hacienda the used the Inca building and integrated the hacienda into it. Therefore, the hacienda is a mixture of Incan architecture and colonial style.

Accommodation:

San Agustin has six suites of which four have adjoining drawing rooms and two incorporated drawing rooms. Furthermore it offers five double rooms; in total eleven rooms with a capacity of up to 34 people.

Inca House:
In the main courtyard it is possible to see three distinct styles, Inca (Imperial style – 15th century, construction style which the Incas used for their temples and palaces), Spanish Colonial (18th century) and Republican (19th century). San Agustin de Callo constitutes the only lived in museum of Inca Imperial and Spanish Colonial style.

Inca Tambo Suite:
It has a King size bed, cable TV, music and books. Adjoining room with sofa bed or two single beds. The bathroom features an antique tub and a fireplace. Three fireplaces. The remains of an Inca wall, which was discovered during renovation, forms part of this bedroom. A door leads out to the gardens.

Mulalo Suite:
It has a King size bed, drawing room with sofa bed. The lounge is equipped with a Stereo, library and cable TV. Three fireplaces, one in the spacious bathroom with its antique tub, one in the bedroom, and one in the drawing room. All the bedrooms have views of the main courtyard and Tungurahua and Chimborazo volcanoes.

French Room, Geodesic Room, and Round Ladies Room:
All of these rooms have King size beds, en suite bathrooms with fireplaces throughout, music and cable TV. Inca vestiges in some of the rooms.

Callo Lodge:
This charming house is set slightly apart from the Inca House. It has a cozy living room with fireplace and a kitchen. Also music, books and cable TV are available.

Von Humboldt Suite:
It has a king size bed, incorporated drawing room with sofa bed or space for extra beds, private bathroom, fireplace in the bedroom with a heating system in the bathroom. Magnificent view of Cotopaxi and Callo Mound.

Montufar Room:
It has a King size bed, fireplace in the bedroom, private bathroom. Views of Tungurahua and Chimborazo volcanoes. Small room.

Bonpland Room:
It has a King size bed, fireplace in the bedroom, private bathroom with heating. Views of Chimborazo and Tungurahua volcanoes. Somewhat small room.

Cotopaxi House:
Has two full suites, Suite Cotopaxi and Suite Morurco, with independent drawing rooms with sofa beds, fireplaces, music, books, cable TV and wonderful views of Cotopaxi from all the rooms and surrounding mountain ranges. The bathrooms have showers and jacuzzis with views of Cotopaxi. The larger suite, Suite Cotopaxi, has a social bathroom in the drawing room with a shower. King size beds in both suites.

Services & Facilities:

The hacienda San Augustin de Callo offers the following activities:

Horseback Riding - The horseback riding trails lead you through Andean villages and narrow paths along former Inca trails. Duration: 2 hour-full day

Hiking - The high paramo with its unique abundance of flora and fauna is within easy access from the hacienda.

Mountain Biking - The Hacienda is ideally situated for off road riding in and around Cotopaxi National Park or the mountain range above the Saquisili market place. For people who wish to enjoy a spectacular down hill ride, four wheel drive transport takes you to the 'Refugio', located just below Cotopaxi's snow line at 4800 mts. Riders can then make the exciting descent to the park entrance where transport will be waiting to take you back to the hacienda and to a well-earned dinner.

Markets - The Pujili and Saquisili Indian Markets are within a twenty minute drive from the hacienda. The Saquisilí market is one of the most authentic markets in Ecuador, with their colorful displays of spices, fruits and hand woven ponchos.
