Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Quito – Pululahua Reserve
Transport from Quito to The Green Horse Ranch based in the Natural Pululahua Reserve. A savage path will lead you all around the Cerro Pondoña crater. You will find out marks of the previous geological activity. In the way that goes to the Chaupisacha research center, in the middle of the rain forest, you will cross the Reventazón. It is an old lava flow with its mineral spring and wild orchids. Accommodation in a friendly country house in the mystical atmosphere of the crater. -/L/D
Day 2: Rio Blanco - Portalanza
You will leave the volcan through a narrow passage on the mountainside. You will go through canyon dug in old lava flow, steep slope covered by rain forest, lahars fields where wild orchids bloom… until you reach the Rio Blanco valley. Thanks to its hot tropical climate you will find coffee crop, sugar cane and many tropical fruits. You could see prehistoric ruin all along the road as well as the pre-Inca fortress of Portalanza. Aguatacal is the name of the nice and remote (no electricity) farmhouse where you will spend the night.B/L/D
Day 3: Aguacatal - Guayllabamna
Today, you will stay in Aguacatal to relax. The host will cook you her Austrian dish, the "Kaiserschmarrn". If you are interested she could explain to you the weird history of that traditional dish. Next you will be invited to a horseback ride about 2 or 3 hours to explore the surroundings. You could also trek in the Guayllabamba valley, visit a former Jesuit farm, have a look at 1300 years old mysterious stone carving from the Yumbo culture or bathe in a waterfall. B/L/D
Day 4: Guayllabamba - Quito
In the morning you will take a walk in the Guayllabamba valley. That place was inhabited more than 1000 B.C. by people who lived on crop and built temple to pay tribute to their gods. You will go through adventurous path, profit by the panorama and observe the luxuriant vegetation. At the end of the trip you will cross an old Arrayan forest. Trip back to Quito during the afternoon.. B/L/-

What to bring:
You will cross different climatic area and after the sunset temperatures can drop considerably. You will need to carry along warm and summer clothes. The most appropriate ones are long-sleeved shirt with trousers during the day (to protect from the sun and insects). We recommend you to bring a pullover or a jacket for the coldest moment, raincoat, a hat, sneakers and riding boots. We supply rubber boots for the shortest excursions. Please do not forget to bring your own sun cream, sun glasses, bug spray, camera, water bottle, flashlight and sleeping bag.
