Bolivia General Information:
Bolivia with its 1,098,000 qkm is about as large as France and Spain together but with only about 9.1 million inhabitants. It is situated on a higher altitude than any other South American country and even though it borders on Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile it is quite an isolated country.
The population of Bolivia consists of 70 % of Indios. Even today, many of them live strongly according to their traditional culture and faith and speak Quechua or Aymara as their native language. You will be impressed by the wonderful and colourful culture that Bolivia has to offer!
The breathtaking landscapes of this Andean state are divided into five geographical regions: Altiplano, Llanos, Yungas, Gran Chaco and the Amazon basin.
The two Andean chains that cross the western part of the country surround Altiplano, which is situated on a plateau at 3.500 to 4,000 m. A lot of mountains of this region are higher than 6.000m. 70% of the Bolivian population live in the Altiplano plateau. The capital Sucre and the Lake Titicaca are also situated in this region. The Lake Titicaca is the highest-situated lake in the world on which ships can go on.
