Only accessible by air, and with the nearest road a 10-day walk from camp, Kapawi Eco-lodge is indeed tucked away, in the remote Ecuadorian Amazon, making for an authentic wildlife experience worlds away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The welcoming series of light and airy thatched cabins are linked by an elevated wooden walkway, perfectly complimenting and effortlessly in tune with their forest surroundings. The same goes for the guest dining while here, with a restaurant fueled by locally grown and sourced produce, creating traditional Ankuar dishes, as well as a few Amazonian equivalents of international cuisine! Indeed, the indigenous Achuar members own and run the lodge, which has been carefully designed and built using only wood and other natural materials. Staying at Kapawi is a real immersion into this natural habitat, and being deep in the rainforest – wildlife is everywhere. From the decks of the Cabanas, guests can relax while watching the daily life of Hummingbirds; Kingfishers; Parrots, and much, much more. Outside the confines of the complex; there are no end of activities and excursions available, from guided birding walks to river kayaking, night-time hikes to indigenous community visits; Kapawi Eco-Lodge is a not to be missed for those looking to escape into the wild, and enjoy the freedom nature’s finest.
