Tapir Lodge

Developed in partnership with the local indigenous Siona people, Tapir Lodge was created in 1999 with the aim of attracting travelers to the tropical rainforest by providing comfortable lodging that produces minimal disturbance to the surrounding ecosystem. From its ecotourism activities, the Tapir Lodge creates benefits for the local Siona community.

The Tapir Lodge is located in the upper section of the Cuyabeno Reserve, which over the years has itself become an important tourist destination due to its amazing animal and bird diversity, which is reflected in its 15 species of monkeys, well over 500 types of birds ...and even Pink river dolphins!

Tours of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve are with experienced multilingual guides, who will travel with you in dugout canoes or hikes in the rainforest for activities that include birdwatching, canoeing, caiman watching, sports fishing, rainforest treks, nighttime hikes and camping excursions. You can also spend a whole day visiting a local indigenous community (the Siona people) to experience their daily life and local traditions, as well as stop to visit the local shaman.

Tapir Lodge will be the base-camp for all these activities, where you will have time to relax and recover your energies. The lodge has a total of 22 rooms in three 35-foot-high “towers,” with each room having a large private bathroom with a hot-water shower and amenities; also, all beds are framed with mosquito netting that assures good ventilation.

The Tapir Lodge has a fully equipped kitchen to provide guests with fresh, healthy and delicious food prepared by the lodge’s experienced chef and served by the professional staff. The ingredients include local products (fruits and vegetables) from the jungle and others from the nearby city. Vegetarians or those people with special dietary requirements can be easily attended to if contact is made with the lodge ahead of time.

After a full day of activities in the jungle, the lodge’s “Tarántula bar” offers great non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages – ones like freshly squeezed tropical juices, cold beer, wine and cocktails!

“The trip to the Galapagos was really fantastic! Although it was quite short, the trip itinerary made time for us to do quite a lot of things. Everything went very smoothly, too.”Maggie Clark
