Napo Cultural Center - 4 Nights Itinerary A

Yasuni means “sacred land” and symbolizes the abundance of life on Earth. This vast protected tract of land is home to a third of all Amazonian mammals, including a staggering 60% of all New World wild cats, 106 reptiles, and 610 species of bird; as well as more than 4,000 species of plants. Napo Cultural Center: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Quito – Coca – Yasuni Kichwa Eco-Lodge

AM: The trip starts from the town of Coca, heading out in a comfortable, roofed, motorized canoe. As the trip downriver takes about two hours, box lunches will be provided to passengers. During the trip, you will see birds such as herons, kingfishers, terns and other shore birds species and striking rainforest landscapes. Arriving at Yasuni Kichwa Eco-lodge, visitors are warmly welcome with a traditional drink and lunch at the eco-lodge, and are then taken to their cabins amidst the teeming wilderness found in one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth.

PM: In the afternoon, we will take a short walk down to the Napo River to enjoy a beautiful sunset on the bank and nearby islands, returning to the lodge later for dinner and rest.

Lunch - Dinner
Day 2
Parrot Clay Lick – Interpretation Center – Observation Tower – Canoe Trip

AM: After an early breakfast, we will take the motor boat to visit an fascinating parrot clay lick. Easily accessible, this site brings visitors face to face with approximately 11 species of parrots (including parrotlets and macaws),though the numbers depend on the season, weather conditions and good luck (thought this activity is usually fruitful). 

We end this morning with a visit to the Kuri Muyu Interpretation Center, which is run by the women of the community. Here you will learn directly from the people of community about Kichwa culture, crafts, their traditions and their uses of natural resources. We will later return to the lodge for lunch and rest.

PM: Later, we will walk for an hour to climb up the 35-meter-high observation tower to spot a variety of birds, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, toucans, parrots and sloths. Return to the hotel in a motorized canoe for dinner and rest.

Day 3
Community Contact – Evening Canoe Safari

AM: After breakfast, we will visit a number of community projects and learn about the Kichwa worldview from local indigenous inhabitants. From there, we will take a walk along the Mama Cuna road, an excellent opportunity to see more wildlife, ceiba trees, bamboo cane, vines and shrubs endemic to Yasuni. We will later return to the lodge for lunch and rest.

PM: In the evening, we will make our way to the Añangu River, board a small canoe and head down the river on a spectacular adventure through the forest. As the sun sets, we will have opportunities to spotlight alligators and listen to the sounds of nature at its purest. Return to hotel by motorized canoe for a traditional dinner.

Day 4
Observation Tower Wildlife-Watching – Free Time OR Camping

AM: This morning we will return to the observation tower to spot a variety of birds, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, toucans, parrots and sloths. We will go back to the hotel for lunch.

PM: This afternoon will be at your leisure or you can head out on a camping trip as another way of perceiving life ancestral of “Pacha Mama” and forest nature (the lodge will provide all of the camping equipment).

Day 5
Traditional Kichwa Ceremony – Departure to Coca

AM: We will get up at 4: 30 a.m. (optional) to share in one of the ancient customs of Kichwa culture, making wayusa to energize the body. We will then head back for breakfast before taking a motorized canoe back to the town of Coca.
