Delfin I Amazon Riverboat 3-Night Itinerary

This 4-day/3-night Delfin II itinerary showcases the best flora and fauna that the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Note, though, that this tour varies somewhat based on whether the travel dates fall in the high-water/rainy season or low water/dry season. Daily excursions (at least one in the morning and one in the afternoon) may include but are not limited to kayaking in the calm creeks and lakes, swimming with dolphins, fishing for piranhas at sunset, skirting the riverbanks in search of playful creatures, birdwatching, trail walks, and visits to local communities to interact with the native people. Optional early birdwatching excursions before breakfast are also available for those who are up for the challenge!

•  Low water season: June to October. Ideal for travelers that prefer to walk through the rainforest to discover its flora and fauna. Allows for more trail walks.

• High water season: November to May. Ideal for travelers that prefer to duck into otherwise isolated corners of the reserve onboard speedboats. Allows for more extensive exploration and access via water.

“We loved the Galapagos Islands. Both of our hotels on Santa Cruz and Isabella islands were excellent. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and directed us to the most interesting sights and wildlife. Thanks Surtrek for organizing an excellent trip.”Catherine Anne Woodruff

Delfin I Amazon Riverboat: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive to Iquitos, transfer to Nauta, VIP reception at the ship’s private port, embarkation

Plan to arrive in Iquitos on the afternoon flight from Lima arriving at 5:00 pm. After arriving at Iquitos International Airport, you will be assisted by the guides and transported by bus for about 1½ hours to Nauta. Nauta lies between Iquitos and the Marañon River, where the Delfin I is waiting for you. Upon boarding the Delfin I, your experienced crew will help you settle into your stateroom, and introduce you to their extraordinary vessel.

Just before dusk, as the Delfin starts its journey into the rainforest, the barman and staff will provide you with a wide variety of drinks and cocktails including Peru’s finest and most famous cocktail, the pisco sour, made of Pisco, a Peruvian grape brandy. Fine regional cigars will also be available. Dinner is served in the cozy dining room located at the back of the ship’s second deck. Aside from providing you with your first rainforest adventure, the Delfin is also a unique culinary experience, offering the best of Amazonian-Peruvian cuisine in a cosmopolitan gourmet setting. The chef prides himself in serving dishes in different styles and seasoned with a wide variety of herbs and spices, as well as exotic fruits.

After a delicious meal, head to the top observation deck where the guides will use charts and short videos displayed on the flat LCD screen to conduct a brief orientation, outlining details of your journey, including the places you will visit, the wildlife you will see, as well as a summary of the history and geography of the Amazon basin.

Finally, under the beauty of an Amazonian night filled with hundreds of stars or perhaps a full moon, and wafted by the gentle breeze of the rainforest, the multi-talented staff will entertain you with a little live music, while you enjoy an after dinner drink and the tropical Amazonian breeze.
