5-day/4-night High-Water-Season River Cruise: Discover the vast area of Amazonian jungle and floodable forest of northeastern Peru on this 5-day/4-night Delfin III riverboat cruise. Your travel here will be during the high-water season (between November & May), allowing you more extensive exploration and access to the jungle’s waterways via skiff and kayak – bringing you up close and personal to the exotic wildlife that calls this ocean of green home. Sailing along tributaries of the Amazon River on board the Delfin III, we will explore the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve to experience some fantastic wildlife watching, make authentic contacts with indigenous peoples, and view unforgettable sunsets that will provide yet additional highlights to this journey of a lifetime.

PM: Upon your arrival at the Iquitos airport, crew, members of the Delfin III will be waiting to welcome you. You will then be led to a comfortable private vehicle in which you will be served a boxed lunch as you are driven on a 95-kilometer paved-road journey to the port town of Nauta. Once reaching this town situated on the bank of the Marañon River, you will receive a VIP greeting at the Delfin III’s private port. After boarding the Delfin III, the ship’s qualified staff will introduce you to your cozy suite, which is specially equipped with all the amenities for traveling in comfort, including orthopedic beds, pure cotton sheets, 100% pure natural latex pillows, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, and your private bathroom with Spanish-style hot water showers – all complemented with a spacious private terrace. As the Delfin III begins heading upriver, you can enjoy panoramic views of the region from the elegantly outfitted upper observation deck*. Here, the Delfin III’s bartender will be waiting to serve you an exotic Happy Hour cocktail made with regional fruits and Pisco – the national brandy liquor of Peru. Afterwards, your naturalist guide will give you an overview of your journey’s schedule, activities, route, highlights, geographical highlights, the historical background, and the vegetation and wildlife to keep your eye out for, as well as other useful details.

AM: This morning, the Delfin III will sail along the Samiria River and its tributaries. Deep in the rainforest, we will discover an abundance of wildlife, including Blue and Yellow macaws, Scarlet macaws, toucans, Umbrellabirds, monkeys, River otters, capybaras and more. All of this will be pointed out to you by the Delfin III’s expert naturalist guides. With any luck, you might even spot Pink river dolphins, as this is one of their favorite feeding spots for these elusive creatures.
PM: After a delicious lunch on board the ship, we will begin cruising along the Yanayaquillo River, catching glimpses of various creeks and lagoons that it feeds. As this is one of the most protected and best-preserved areas of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, our guide will use his/her expert eye to point out the highlights of the rich biodiversity of this region.
AM: Today we will start cruising along the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, continuing to peek into their various creeks and lagoons while on board the ship’s motorized canoe. Here, you will even have the opportunity to swim in these jungle rivers along with their famous Pink dolphins!
PM: By afternoon we will have made our way to Nauta Caño Creek, which is known for its Squirrel- and Silverback tamarillo monkeys, birds, dolphins and even sloths! In this area, you will have a chance to spot wildlife on the riverbanks, as well as find insects of all colors, shapes and sizes. You will even have a chance to do some fishing for the famous piranha, a delightful and challenging experience you won’t forget! As night approaches, your guide will take you on a night safari in search of caiman alligators and night birds.
AM: This morning, a walk along the Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on “Terra Firma” (non-flooded) forest, where your guide will point out the fascinating creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Be sure to keep your eye out for any amazing natural surprises!
PM: After lunch, we will visit the indigenous San Francisco community, going on a short motorized-canoe ride and jungle trek to meet with these local Amazonian villagers. We will also be able to visit a market brimming with amazing arts and crafts created by locals who have called the rainforest home for generations. Later, you will have a great photo op as you witness the Amazonian rainforest sunset. Also, as the Delfin III has an open policy for visiting the ship’s bridge, this evening especially you will be welcome to learn about the navigation systems and spend time with the ship’s captain. Moreover, should you have any doubts or questions, the Delfin III’s guides are always fully at your service. After dinner, you are invited to the third deck, where you can enjoy stargazing as we cruise through the depths of the Amazon rainforest. Following this experience, you can go on a nocturnal jungle safari with the Delfin III’s guides to search for nocturnal creatures.
AM: The officers and ship crew of the Delfin III will undoubtedly bid you a fond farewell as you begin your departure. At the port of Nauta, the Delfin III’s ground crew will be waiting to take you by private vehicle back to the city of Iquitos, a 95-kilometer journey on a paved road. On our way from Nauta back to Iquitos airport, you will visit the River Mammal Rescue & Rehabilitation Center (ACOBIA), where you will have the chance to see baby manatees and learn about these wonderful and docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. You will also have the chance to pet and feed these enchanting creatures. At the center, there are also other animals that have been rescued from poaching operations and are now cared for. Finally, at the airport, the Delfin III’s staff will be on hand to help you with your luggage and check in. (Your return flight will take you directly to the city of Lima, the capital of Peru). At the security gate, your guide and Delfin crew members will say goodbye, each truly hoping that you enjoyed your stay and your Amazon travel experience!
