Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Awasi Patagonia Lodge – Grey Peninsula Tour

AM: After arriving at the airport in the southern Chilean city of Puerto Natales, your guide will meet you and drive you to the Awasi Patagonia Lodge; this scenic 60km drive takes approximately 2-3 hours. After checking in, you will have lunch there at the lodge and have time to rest up.

PM: Following a hearty Patagonia lunch, you can choose to go on a hike on which you can enjoy the song of local birds as you stroll through an enchanted forest of Lenga trees down to Grey Beach. As you approach, you will be amazed by the majestic icebergs that have floated down from the nearby Grey glacier, swept along by the strong winds characteristic of the area. From there, you can continue walking until you find yourself facing the peninsula and appreciate the view of the glacier. …a great introduction to the magic of Patagonia.

Day 2
Frenchman’s Valley Hike and Climb (full day)

AM/PM: At what many people consider the best section of Torres del Paine’s “W circuit,” you can spend the whole day at Valle del Francés (or Frenchmen’s Valley). Here, you can climb steep moraines and possibly witness the calving of huge slabs of ice, as these break off the Francés Glacier. A little farther up, you will discover a 360-degree view of the heart of the Paine massif, with its imposing peaks and immense granite rock. As this is a longer excursion, it requires you to take a catamaran ride across Lake Pehoé, which provides yet another striking view of the massif.

Day 3
Windy Peaks Hike – Cleopatra´s Needles Horseback Riding

AM: This morning you and your personal guide can go on a hike up the steep Windy Peaks slope to the top of this mountain chain, where you will be amply rewarded by the panoramic view of a vast part of the Torres del Paine National Park. Weather permitting, you will be able to see most of the high peaks, notable among which are Cerro Balmaceda, Paine Grande, Los Cuernos and Almirante Nieto. You will then head due south, walking along the different peaks, and then descend at Quebrada de la Feria, an old path once used by cattle ranchers.

PM: This afternoon, you might select Cleopatra´s Needles as the destination of your horseback riding destination. Named by Lady Florence Dixie, the first tourist to visit the area, the “Cleopatra´s Needles” excursion covers part of the same ground traveled by that explorer in 1878. Once on this ride, you will be able to appreciate and feel part of the experiences of such a daring venture.

Day 4
Laguna Azul Wildlife Watching – Zamora Mountain Bike Descent

AM: An excellent place to view a variety of local bird species — such as the Upland Goose, Crested Duck, and Red-Gartered Coot — Laguna Azul is a birdwatchers’ paradise. In addition, the sighting of guanacos and ñandús (rheas) is a common treat along the way. You will be charmed by a stunning view of the Torres del Paine, as well as with the perfect blend of Patagonian steppe and mixed forest.

PM: This afternoon you might choose to experience the exhilarating thrill of mountain biking down through a Patagonian forest of lengas and ñirres, with magnificent views of the Zamora River and Las Chinas valleys. This route will take you and your personal guide to the haciendas located on the Argentine border, where there is very little vehicular traffic. After descending 10 km, you will reach Laguna Azul Lake, where you will be able to appreciate the intense blue of its waters and – weather permitting – the three Torres del Paine summits in the background.
