Explora Atacama

Located in northern Chile’s stunning Atacama Desert between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains, just outside the oasis village of San Pedro de Atacama, you will find a very special resort:  the Explora Atacama Lodge. Within a stone's throw of snow-capped volcanoes, shimmering salt pans and the Andes, the building itself reflects the mood of the magic area of the world's driest desert.

The 17-hectare (42-acre) grounds comprise 20 indigenous parcels, some with timeworn pathways and buildings. The lodge features 50 luxury rooms, measuring 33 m2 (335.2 square feet), Jacuzzis and sitting area. Each room has marvelous wood and tile accents, fabulous linens, custom designed furnishings and spectacular views of the desert, mountains and volcanoes.

The upscale restaurant serves international cuisine, while the bar and lounge area provides a perfect place to exchange the adventure experiences of the day. Four spectacular outdoor swimming pools are great places to cool off from the desert warmth.

Explora's multilingual guides offer guests 5-7 excursion options per day – including guided excursions to hot springs and boiling geysers, horseback riding in the sand dunes, mountain biking, sunset hiking to the Moon Valley, volcano climbing, cultural excursions, relaxing in Explora’s private hot springs, and much more. In short, Atacama is the ultimate destination for those looking for both adventure and natural beauty.

“We loved the Galapagos Islands. Both of our hotels on Santa Cruz and Isabella islands were excellent. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and directed us to the most interesting sights and wildlife. Thanks Surtrek for organizing an excellent trip.”Catherine Anne Woodruff
