Hangaroa Eco-Village & Spa 3-Night Itinerary

Travel to Easter Island to discover a destination where history meets legend. In fact, you will see how this island’s history is present in an almost surreal way: in massive and mysterious moai statues scattered all over the island. This and more is what you will find during your introduction to this remote Polynesian island where locals constantly strive to retain their cultural heritage in dance, art and music. During your Easter Island stay at the luxury Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa – the only 5-star hotel on Easter Island – the hotel will provide you with guide and excursions that include diving, trekking, cultural contact, sailing, fishing, 4x4 outings and more. By selecting from these, you can design the activities that are of most interest to you during your stay, which allows you to become immersed in the mystique of the island, connect and integrate with the local community, and learn more of the ancestral culture of this mystery island. As an example, the 4-day/3-night tour detailed below provides a great chance to “Meet the Moais” and explore Ana Kai Tangata, though you can also enjoy the simple pleasures of horseback riding and fishing.

The following detailed itinerary is just an example of a tour that can be designed by any guest(s) at the Hangaroa Eco-Village & Spa after selecting from the number of excursions offered.

“The Galapagos Islands was a dream trip for me. Surtrek expertly guided me to a boat expedition, activities and experiences that created the adventure I wanted. Every day was special, as we snorkeled with sea lions, sea turtles and penguins, hiked and lear”Kris Dreessen

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival on Easter Island – Transfer to the Hotel – Meeting the Moai

AM: Upon you arrival on Easter Island, you will be met with a welcoming reception before being driven to the hotel, where luggage and hotel registration assistance will be provided. After you have had a chance to unpack and settle into your room, you will be given a detailed itinerary along with a welcome kit.

PM: Following lunch, we will head out to view some of the 887 gigantic statues, or “moai,” that dot the island. Some of these figures stand as high as 46 feet (14 meters) tall, and weigh over 30 tons. Viewing these enigmatic works of art will likely be the highlight of your travel. Some of the most unique sites include the Tahai complex, where you’ll see the only statue on the island with painted eyes; and the red stone quarry of Puna Pau, where the moai’s “pukao” (headdresses) were sculpted. Afterwards, you can choose to spend the afternoon swimming and snorkeling.

Town Walking-Tour – Ana Kai Tangata Cave – Easter Island Horseback Riding

AM: This morning we will walk into Hanga Roa, the island’s only substantial town, where you can get your bearings by strolling through the town center. Here you will be able to soak up the scenery around the fishing harbor before heading south to Ana Kai Tangata Cave. At this impressive black-rock cavern that’s best known for its colorful Manutara bird paintings, you will get your first introduction to the uncanny “Birdman ceremony.”

PM: After a hearty Easter Island lunch, you can choose to go horseback riding to landmarks on the island. This will give you a chance to ride through unique landscapes and to areas of archaeological interest, such as Ara or Te Moai (the “route of the moai”), the north coast of Hanga Oteo, the first Ahu, or the heights of Terevaka.
