Explora Rapa Nui Hotel

Enormous and enigmatic stone Moai statues are the most famous inhabitants of Rapa Nui (better known as “Easter Island”). While the origins and evolution of these 887 gargantuan figures remain unexplained, they appear everywhere, standing proud for hundreds of years or having toppled down and eroded.

The perfect base for exploring this attractive and mysterious island – the most remote inhabited island in the world – is the Explora Rapa Nui Hotel.

To experience the amazing heritage, geography and culture of Easter Island first hand, hotel guests can participate in daily “Explorations” (excursions) that range from treks, mountain bike rides and sea excursions that suit all tastes and varying levels of ability. Almost 20 excursions are offered, all having strong cultural and archaeological focuses and led by an expert bilingual local guide.

The hotel’s programs are available year round, but require a minimum stay of 3 nights, though longer stays are recommended for sufficient time to enjoy these unforgettable experiences. (Note: During Christmas and New Year there are fixed programs of 4 nights)

As for the lodge itself, it is wonderfully remote. Located on a hill surrounded by four square miles of isolated grounds, only those distant Moai statues interrupt the view. The design of the lodge was intended to fit into the geography of the island while having minimal impact on its surrounding environment, as it was built on a site that is both inappropriate for agricultural use and devoid of archaeological ruins.

Characterized by superb service and modern cutting-edge accommodations, this angular hotel is constructed of concrete, stone, glass and wood. All of its 30 rooms, which extend to the north and south from a central building, have red-clay roofs and excellent ocean views. Each of the rooms has a small living area, hydro-massage bath and plush beds in which you can sink into at the end of the day.

The lodge has a welcoming main lodge and indoor spaces that integrate aspects of the local culture, while just a few steps away one finds the Casa de Banos spa, a pool, heated open-air Jacuzzis, a bar and the Hare Taheta massage room, where guests can indulge in a relaxing and therapeutic massage as they contemplate the ocean views.
