Finch Bay Hotel - 7 Nights Itinerary

On this tour, the Finch Bay Eco Hotel (Santa Cruz Island) has joined forces with Scalesia Lodge (Isabela Island) to develop a stunning 8-day/7-night program in the enchanted Galapagos Islands. This adventure includes inter-island flights, two full-day trips on board the Sea Lion yacht, and visits to remote places that no other “island hopping” trip will ever experience. You will get the best of both worlds by exploring an active volcano, together with day trips to rewarding visitor sites of the Galapagos National Park & Marine Reserve. In addition, you can pursue your favorite outdoor activities on or near the hotels’ grounds on Santa Cruz and Isabela islands. In both of these locations, you can participate in sports such as kayaking, scuba diving, biking, and hiking. Then too, you may want to want to just lie back on the sun decks, enjoying the incredible hospitality, the Cordon Bleu cuisine, and the beachfront view from your hammock. Finch Bay Hotel: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Ecuadorian mainland – Galapagos Islands (Baltra Island) – Inter-island flight to Isabela Island

In the morning, you will fly from Quito or Guayaquil (on the Ecuadorian mainland) to Baltra Island, the main point of entrance to this natural paradise, situated in the heart of the Galapagos archipelago. From the Baltra Airport, you will then take a scenic inter-island flight to Isabela Island. Upon your arrival on Isabela, you will be welcomed and met at the airport, and then driven to the Scalesia Lodge to check in, unpack and have lunch before heading out on your first afternoon of discovery. Get to know the youngest side of the archipelago while exploring rewarding visitor sites of the National Park, wetland lagoons, and the giant tortoise-breeding center. Wrap up your day at the stunning white beach of Puerto Villamil before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2
Sierra Negra Volcano and beach-combing on Puerto Villamil, Isabela Island.

After and early breakfast, we will set out to explore Isabela Island and its highlight: the Sierra Negra Volcano. Walk along the rim of the world’s second largest caldera, see recent volcanic activity and witness the resulting fascinating formations. A light snack will be provided along the way while lunch is served back at the lodge. Stroll the beach at Puerto Villamil or rest in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Scalesia Lodge.

Day 3
Isabela Island-based land & sea exploration at Tintoreras and Wall of Tears visitor sites

Today we will visit both the Galapagos National Park and the Marine Reserve, each with their own unique features. After breakfast, we will start out at the Tintoreras visitor site, a small group of islets reachable only by boat, to observe reef sharks in their natural habitat, intertidal organisms, marine iguanas, and a colony of Galapagos penguins. Following lunch at the lodge, later in the day we can explore the history of Isabela Island at the “Wall of Tears” visitor site. That evening you should be able to enjoy a spectacular sunsets in the town of Puerto Villamil. You will have dinner and spend the night at Scalesia Lodge.

Day 4
Fly back to Baltra Island and explore the National Park at North Seymour Island

After breakfast, Scalesia Lodge’s staff will take us back to Puerto Villamil’s airport. A short but interesting flight will take us back to Baltra Island airport, where we will board the Sea Lion yacht for a short cruise to North Seymour Island. Marvel at the sight of Galapagos sea lions and fur seals, blue-footed boobies and frigate birds. Torchwood trees and prickly pears, pillow lava boulders and white sand add to the unforgettable landscape. Following lunch on board the Sea Lion, we will go on an afternoon cruise to Itabaca Channel and then drive across Santa Cruz Island to reach the town of Puerto Ayora. Finch Bay Eco Hotel, situated among mangroves, lies a short dinghy ride and a few steps away from the town. Dinner is up to you: choose the hotel´s signature cuisine or one of the many options in town. You will spend the night at the Finch Bay Eco Hotel.

Day 5
Highlands of Santa Cruz Island Including the Iconic Galapagos Giant Tortoises

Start the day with a hearty Finch Bay breakfast, featuring local and international favorites. We will then leave for a site called “El Manzanillo.” Located in the higher area of the island, El Manzanillo covers a natural path along which Galapagos giant tortoises lumber free. Following this trail, you will find the grazing grounds and water ponds where these giant reptiles wallow. The cooler highlands are also home to many interesting land birds, plants and trees exclusive to these islands. We will stop briefly at the Twin Craters, and later have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will stop briefly at a local sustainable ranch before returning to enjoy the Finch Bay’s facilities. You are free for dinner. Overnight at the Finch Bay Eco Hotel.

Day 6
Exploring the National Park by Sailing to Santa Fe Island On Board the Sea Lion Yacht

After breakfast, we will board Sea Lion yacht and cruise to Santa Fe Island, an impressive volcanic island 16 nautical miles from Puerto Ayora. After a wet landing on a fantastic white sandy beach covered with basking sea lions, we walk along a rocky terrain to find the island´s highlights. One of these is the endemic Santa Fe land iguana, which patiently waiting under enormous giant cacti for falling fruits and pads. Other relevant species that you will see today include pelicans, boobies and the archipelago´s top predator: the Galapagos Hawk. We will later return to the yacht and enjoy one of Galapagos best snorkeling sites, followed by lunch on board Sea Lion yacht. During the cruise back to Puerto Ayora, you can scan the sea surface for pelagic birds and whales. Late this evening, you can enjoy cocktails around the pool, and stay for dinner or make it a night on the town. Overnight at the Finch Bay Eco Hotel.

Day 7
Tortuga Bay – Playa Brava – Playa Mansa – Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island)

After breakfast, we leave to Tortuga Bay, voted as Ecuador´s best beach, and take a walk in which we will explore and learn more about the arid zone’s deciduous forest and its inhabitants. First, we will reach Playa Brava, a stunning 1km long snow-white beach, which is also a seasonal nesting site for green sea turtles. A few minutes later, we will reach Playa Mansa, a secluded natural mangrove cove. With clear and tranquil waters, Mansa beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, paddling in tandem kayaks, or simply enjoying the landscape from the shade of a mangrove. We will board a small yacht to sail back to the hotel´s dock on Academy Bay. After lunch at the Finch Bay hotel, the afternoon will be the grand finale, which will include strolling around the Charles Darwin Research Station, where the highlight is the conservation program for the iconic Galapagos Giant tortoises.

Morning Excursion – Shared Transfer to Baltra Island Airport – Departure

We can leave the hotel early in the morning for a visit to the twin crater sinkholes in the highlands. Concluding this amazing experience in the Galapagos Islands, you will then be transferred to the Baltra Island airport for your return flight to the Ecuadorian mainland. Enjoy your last look back at the “enchanted islands,” a unique paradise with inspiring natural wonders.
