5-Day/4-Night “Dive Safari” Tour: The Galapagos Islands is considered to be one of the best Scuba diving sites in the world. Due to the archipelago’s strategic location between the Humboldt and El Niño currents, you can experience close encounters with large manta rays, green turtles, sea lions, and formidable schools of sharks! During the warmer period between December and May, the chances of seeing whale sharks around the northern islands are very high, though they can also be spotted around the central islands*, where the Galapagos Safari Camp is located. During the colder period, extending from June to November, the chances of seeing whale sharks are less, but there is a higher density of rays, as this is their mating season. Designed for dive enthusiasts, this 5-day/4-night diving itinerary – for intermediate and experienced divers only – includes two dives per day, in addition to a land excursion upon your arrival.
(*) Note: Possible dives sites include Gordon Rocks, Bartolome Island, North Seymour Island, Cousins Rock, Mosquera Island, and Daphne Islet.
“A note to thank you immensely for all your guidance & assistance in planning & completing our South American tour, including Quito, Galapagos, Santiago & Rapa Nui. It truly was an adventure & a fitting celebration of our 60th wedding anniversary”
AM: Upon your arrival in the Galapagos Islands, your naturalist guide will welcome you at Baltra Airport. You will then be accompanied in crossing the narrow Itabaca Channel over to Santa Cruz Island, and from there be driven to Galapagos Safari Camp.
PM: After a delicious, locally-sourced lunch at a farm in the western hills, you will be able to take in the area’s natural beauty, pit craters, lava tunnels and learn more about the Scalesia and Guayabillo forests. Before sundown, we will visit the nearby lava tunnels and search for Galapagos giant tortoises roaming in the tortoise reserve next to Safari Camp.
The Galapagos Islands and the surrounding waters represent one of the world’s most unique ecosystems and is an area rich in bio-diversity. The convergence of ocean currents has combined plant and animal life from contrasting environments and given rise to unique marine species. For these reasons, UNESCO granted “World Heritage Site” status to the Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR), as it is the largest marine reserve in a developing country and the second largest marine reserve in the world. On days 2, 3 and 4, we will head out on two daily submersions to fully experience this underwater realm.
