Hacienda La Danesa - Tour Day

Hacienda La Danesa — a traditional 500-hectar dairy and cacao farm with over 145 years of rich heritage and history — is located about an hour’s drive from Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Family-owned and managed, the farm offers a unique selection of activities for guests, including horseback riding through coastal forests, tubing down lazy rivers, cycling around the farm, chocolate making on the cacao plantation, cow milking, watching native Ecuadorian Montubio performances, and more.

On this one-day excursion you will have a chance to sample hacienda’s kitchen, which offers mostly traditional Ecuadorian cuisine mixed with a pinch of fresh international influence to bring exceptionally transcendent flavors to the table. La Danesa is also one of the few venues in the world that serve award-winning Ecuadorian Chardonnay wine and other outstanding local microbrewery beers.

Experience inland Ecuador like never before!

“My wife and I just completed a 5-day tour around the Cotopaxi volcano and the stunning Quilotoa loop – overall an excellent trip and wonderful experience.”Bernd Bassalleck

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Hacienda la Danesa – One-Day Tour

8:45 am: Ride to the Hotel (from Guayaquil)

You can be picked up at your desired location in Guayaquil by private transportation organized by Hacienda La Danesa or contracted independently. As alternatives, you can board an air-conditioned train at the Duran station (on the edge of Guayaquil) and take a locomotive ride to the hacienda, passing through scenic coastal landscapes. Or, La Danesa can even organize a helicopter flight from Guayaquil to the hacienda for you.

10:00 am: Welcome to Hacienda La Danesa

Upon your arrival at Hacienda La Danesa, you will be greeted by your host, who will meet you with a warm welcome and explain the hacienda’s rich 145-year history. Before beginning the day’s planned activities, you will have a chance to leisurely explore the gardens and the hacienda’s grounds, enjoy refreshing cold drinks, and have a traditional snack courtesy of La Danesa.

10:30 am: Cacao & Chocolate Experience

For about 10 minutes, we will stroll through a picturesque teak-lined trail before reaching the cacao plantation. Here, you will learn about the history of cacao and how chocolate is produced from it in Ecuador. As a guest, you will even have a hands-on chance to produce artisan chocolate at the cacao plantation, and then taste the pure raw-chocolate product.

12:00 pm: More Product Tasting at Hacienda La Danesa

As jam, raw honey, dulce de leche and other delicious hand-made products are produced right here at the hacienda, you will have an opportunity to sample all of these, as well as shop for your preferred items and other hand-made Ecuadorian products in La Tienda, a small store on the grounds of the hacienda.

1:00 pm: From Farm to Table Three-Course Lunch

Inspired by La Danesa’s concept of “Farm-to-Table Dining,” you will be able to enjoy a truly unique culinary experience as the hacienda’s chef and staff serve you a three-course lunch consisting primarily of ingredients produced at the hacienda. Alternative dishes for vegans, vegetarians and people with other diets are also available upon request.

2:00 pm: Milking in the Gardens

For 20 years in a row, La Danesa has been named coastal Ecuador’s best cattle dairy, producing close to 1,200 liters of milk daily. You too will have a chance to try your hand milking one of the farm’s cows – even making your own Café au Lait with a shot of fresh warm milk straight from the udder!

3:00 pm: Free Time Activities: Tubing, Mountain Biking, Horseback Riding

For the rest of the day, you will have time to explore the hacienda by mountain bike, go tubing down a lazy river, go horseback riding (extra) or participate in other activities. For those who prefer to simply relax, you can enjoy a glass of wine or two at the hacienda’s Teca Terrace or in its gardens.

5:00 pm: Return to Guayaquil

Your host and the staff will bid you a fond farewell and wish a happy journey back to Guayaquil.
