Salinas and Whale Watching

Known to many as the Miami Beach of Ecuador, Salinas is a bustling stretch of sand where you can enjoy a host of water sports and swim in the warm sea, or simply lay back and relax. Salinas is on the Santa Elena Peninsula, approximately 140km from Guayaquil, and with its lively Malecon lined with restaurants and bars a stone’s throw from the beach, is perfect for a spot of luxuriating. From Salinas, you can go whale watching (from late June to early October) to catch sight of the incredible humpback whales who migrate here to breed in warm waters of the Pacific Coast. Anything from 400 to 2500 whales make the journey all the way from Antarctica to give birth to their calves, and on a tour, you can observe these fascinating animals which can reach up to 15m in length and weigh up to 50 tons.

“We loved the time at the lodge in Cuyabeno. It was so genuine and natural there and the crew was so knowledgable and helpful. Thank you so much for the recommendation of the real Amazonia-experience.”Elena
